“Tube Matting” is a textile created from weaving together recycled bicycle inner tubes, collected from local bicycle stores around East London and diverted from landfill. Tube Matting has been used in wide variety of contexts including floor coverings, surface treatments and cushioning – receiving commissions from architects, interior designers, exhibition designers, TV and private individuals. Barley Massey orginially launched the concept as a ‘new designer’ at the 100% Design trade show in early 2000 after receiving a Crafts Council bursary.
