Event Details

Enjoy a day in the studio with Barley Massey and other keen sewers, turning existing cotton shirts into comfy and stylish knickers . Barley has teamed up with Hackney based slow lingerie brand “Buttress & Snatch” to bring you this project, who are on a mission to re use cotton already in circulation and “Make knickers not landfill!”.

It takes around 3000 litres of water to make just 1 cotton shirt, that’s not to mention the energy of cutting, sewing and shipping it, so it’s nothing short of a crime to throw it away when it gets a mark or worn collar. Make your own pants by re-using cotton from shirts, summer dresses or cotton offcuts.

For the less crafty amongst us, Buttress & Snatch also offer a wonderful shirt cut lingerie gift set service – Send in your shirt to be re-cut and custom tailor made into a fantastic set of lingerie to fit you. Send them the shirt with your required size and they’ll do the rest!

For this workshop, all Levels of sewers are welcome but you do need to know your way around the sewing machine and have made a few items before (not necessarily clothing)

On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:

– Trace off your size and use the “Buttress & Snatch” recycled shirt cotton pants pattern

– Cut out and assemble the fabric pieces on the machine

– Explore colour and design through patch-working

– Add knicker elastic to shape to your body

– Explore the art of ‘upcycling’ and Look at ‘old clothes’ from a new perspective!

Class Size: 6 participants.

Class Includes: “Buttress & Snatch” recycled shirt cotton pants pattern (the pattern includes 2 sizes to fit between 8 and 16 and full instructions of how to make as well as 3m lingerie elastic), use of shirt offcuts from Fabrications studio projects, threads, tools & use of ‘Brother’ sewing machines.
