To celebrate “London Repair Week” , we invite you to our “Refresh your Wardrobe” clothes fixing fiesta! An opportunity to get through your mending pile and fall back in love with your favourite threads, whilst sewcialising in a creative space! There will be sewing machines, overlockers, a ‘pick n mix’ selection of haberdashery, as well as items of clothing pre repaired or upcycled by Barley Massey to inspire and inform.

Basic sewing skills advised. If you have never hand sewn or used a sewing machine before, we recommend attending our “Grandma’s Hands” (introduction to hand sewing repairs) or ‘Beginners Sewing 1’ (introduction to using a sewing machine class) before hand.

During the Sewcial use a combination of hand sewing or machine sewing techniques. ‘Fabrications’ Barley Massey who will be on hand to offer advice (if needed!), tips and tricks she picked up during her 15 years of working freelance in wardrobe for Film and TV and through her own textile upcycling practise of over 25 years.

Suggestions of what would be achievable at the Sewcial:

• Shorten or lengthen items
• Patch holes and tears
• Darn woolens
• Replace a broken zip
• Re sew buttons / belt loops / ties
• Re thread elastic, pull cords
• Re stitch seams
• Customise something up with trims, lace or something else?
• Look at your “old” clothes in a new way!

Please Bring: Items of clothing to work on and relevant haberdashery you might need (We will provide a good selection of resources, that you can use, but we might not have the exact shade of thread or size of zip that your repair might call for!)
