10 June 2017

* * Knit the East London Yarn Triangle (WWKIP day) * *

Date: 10 June 2017 10:30 to 17:30
Details:

In celebration of 2017 World Wide Knit in Public Day, Fabrications has joined forces with Knit with Attitude and Wild and Woolly to bring you the most fun you’ve ever had on a Saturday with a pair of needles, a ball of wool and your knitting buddies!

What’s a yarn triangle and where do I get the pattern to knit it?

The East London Yarn Triangle stretches from Fabrications in the south to Knit with Attitude in the north, to Wild and Woolly in the east – 3 extraordinary yarn stores – and all in walking or bussing distance of each other (isn’t Hackney brilliant?!).

So if it’s a map, how am I going to knit it?

Simply register your team at your chosen starting point (Fabrications, Knit with Attitude or Wild and Woolly). You’ll get a special ELYT map which you need to follow with your knitting or crochet, making sure that you stop to snap yourselves proudly knitting in public as you go.

Your map will have a list of key knit-stops which include some of our favourite hidden and not-so hidden haunts in Hackney.

What’s a Knit-stop?

It’s a place where you stop and knit, and take a picture to post on instagram with the hashtag #eastlondonyarntriangle. Just take out your knitting right there and knit! It might feel a little odd at first, but we think you’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly, and soon enough you’ll be running into lots of other knitters doing the same thing.

What happens when I reach one of the shops?

If you can show the shop-keeper 3 instagram posts with the hashtag #eastlondonyarntriangle, you’ll get tidy 10% off anything you buy that day. We’ll also have plenty of other treats to help any hungry and thirsty knitters get all the way around the triangle.

At the end of the day there will be a prize draw for the best pictures with gorgeous collections of goodies from Fabrications, Knit with Attitude & Wild and Woolly. You can enter as many pictures #eastlondonyarntriangle as you want!

Oh em gee! I want to knit the triangle now! Why do I have to wait until 10th June?

10th June is World Wide Knit in Public Day – it’s the world’s largest knitting event, so we need to all be on it together. Luckily the East London Yarn Triangle is staying right where it is though, so you’ll be able to use your ELYT map to visit us all again whenever you like!

Find out more about the EastLondonYarnTriangle , download the map and see what PRIZES we are offering for all you woolly prize seekers!!

Sew your own 'Sculpural Bucket Coat' with Tree from Stitchless TV

Date: 4 February 2018 11:00 to 04 February 2016 17:00
Details:

Fabrications is very happy to welcome back Tree from Stitchless TV for one of her one of a kind  classes. Tree has a brilliant YouTube chanel teaching how to make all of kinds of stylish items that any level of sewer can make. Her philosophy is to take high end catwalk looks and show us in easy, no fuss steps how we can make our own versions in our front rooms!

Tree has recently branched out into creating patterns from her designs and tutorials - hot off the press is her brilliant 'Sculptural Bucket Coat'. During the class, Tree will guide you through cutting the pattern, piecing together on the machine and the finishing touches.. Here is her video tutorial for a sneak preview, but there is nothing better than spending time with Tree live and direct, and being able to ask lots of questions and get feedback on your sewing.

All levels of sewer are welcome but being able to thread up a machine / have used a machine before is advisable.

On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:

- Work with a paper pattern, layout & cut out your cloth pieces.

- Assemble fabric panels on the machine

- The coat is not lined and we will be using an overlooker to finish the inside seams.

- Apply a bias binding to embelish and finish a raw edge (more experienced sewers)

- Create your own stylish unlined scultural coat

TIME: 11am - 5pm

COST: £90 (includes your own paper pattern worth £15)

YOU WILL NEED: Bring your choice of fabric for making your bucket coat - you can pretty much use anything for this design (except stretch fabric or anything too fragile/that frays easily) or choose from our selection of suitable fabrics.
