* MORNING CLASS * Provisional Driving - intro to using a sewing machine

Details:
The ‘Provisional Driving’ Introduction To Using a Sewing Machine class has been developed to address the needs of those who have little or no experience of using a sewing machine. Through this class participants will learn not only basic sewing machine skills, but will develop the confidence to progress onto making things for themselves using a sewing machine.
In the afternoon, put your new found skills into practise to create a practical item (a creative cushion or bag) in the "Creative Making on the Machine" class.


On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:

- thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin.

- feed fabric through, sew in a straight line and turn corners.

- explore the range of features and stitches on the machine.

- sew different types of seams.

- Understand how to hem the edge of the cloth.

- apply a pocket and patches.

 

TIME: 11am - 1.30pm

PRICE: £30 / £25 conc. OR £50 / £45 when you book for the FULL DAY. (Morning: introduction to using a sewing machine. Lunch Break, followed by creative making on the machine - cushion or bag)

Includes our 'Learn to Sew' textile handout (T-Towel) , other materials, use of sewing machines and refreshments.

* AFTERNOON CLASS * Creative making on the sewing machine (applique cushion or tote style bag)

Drawing inspiration from some of  Barley Massey’s upcycled designs, ‘Creative Making on the machine’ has been developed for participants new to using a sewing machine, wishing to combine creative re use, fabric construction and machine sewing to transform items of old clothing or fabric remnants into practical objects. The focus in this class will be making a cushion cover or tote style bag. This is an ideal follow on class to the morning ’Provisional Driving’ introduction to using a sewing machine class. A discount is offered when you book for the full day!


On completion of this class, participants will confidently be able to:

- use a sewing machine.

- understand the principles of basic pattern making and cutting

- create decoration by combining decorative stitches and appliqué

- make a 3d functional object

- Realise your creative ideas into a personalised cushion cover or tote style bag


TIME: 2.30 - 5pm

PRICE: £30 / £25 concession OR £50 / £45 when you book the FULL DAY

Includes all materials (but you are welcome to bring your own) and refreshments.
