Event Details

This is a cultural hand embroidery workshop, exploring and stitching the rich heritage of Yucatan Mexican traditional embroideries. A journey through time, studying and learning the designs, stitches and fabrics of the Yucatan peninsular in the Gulf of Mexico. Practical directions and tips for the making of your very own artisan Yucatan hand embroidered huipil/hipil.

The class is taught by Bella Lane, who is from Iquitos Peru. A Master Peruvian embroiderer, she went on to train at the Royal School of Needlework. She has taught hand embroidery skills all over the globe and is a world embroidery stitch collector. Recent collaborations include The V&A, British Museum and the Guildhall Art Gallery.

 

Class Size: Max 10 students

Level: Artistic Beginners

T ime: 11am – 5pm (Please arrive promptly)

Class Includes: A specially prepared high quality kit produced by Bella Lane with printed design on cloth, threads, needle, instruction sheets (value £15)

Please Bring: 8 inch hoop, preferably with a stand to free the hands (We also have hoops you can borrow / purchase if you don’t have your own)

Please Note: The workshop will take place in the Fabrications studio (which is downstairs from the shop via 12 steps)

There is no food or drink allowed in the studio, You are welcome to bring a sealed water bottle but please ensure all ‘take outs’ are consumed before arriving. For full day classes there is a scheduled lunch break.
