Discover the slow art of knitwear repair in this practical workshop with Salina Latour, focused on Duplicate Stitch and Swiss Darning techniques. Participants will learn how to replicate knit stitches on stockinette, garter and rib knits, recover dropped stitches, and practise repairing small holes.
This is an ideal follow on workshop to ourĀ “Grandma’s Hands” – introduction to woollen repairsĀ class or for those of you wanting to enhance your existing mending skills.
In the afternoon, Selina is offering aĀ “Woollen Repairs Surgery”, giving participants the opportunity to get advice and apply the learning from the morning session to your own items of knitwear in need of repair.Ā A discount is offered when you book the full day!
On completion of the class participants will confidently be able to:
– Use traditional ‘Swiss Darning’ techniques.
-Recover dropped stitches using a ‘Latch Hook’
-Understanding how to work the ‘Duplicate Stitch’ across a hole
– Apply techniques to different guages of knitwear from fine manufactured to hand knits
– Explore Discreet or ‘Visible Mending’ choices
– Learn how to re create ribbed areas (such as cuffs and edging)
– Consider different weights, colours and creative features of different yarn combinations
– Work on your own and family & friend’s mending piles like a pro!
About the Tutor:Ā The class is taught byĀ Selina Latour, a textile artist and repair specialist based in South East London. Alongside her workshops, she offers her mending services through the online platformĀ ‘The Seam’. She earned an MFA in Textiles from Concordia University in Montreal, where she specialised in mending and repair techniques. Selina excels at restoring garments with moth holes, stains, burns, animal damage, and general wear and tear. She is skilled in both invisible and decorative mending.

TIME: 10:30am – 1:30pm
Class Includes: Suitable needles, mending yarn and woollen swatches to practise on.
If you are booking the full day option, please bring along items of holey knitwear to work on.Ā Please ensureĀ any moth eaten items have been put in the freezer for at least 1 week to kill any moth eggs that may still be dormant in the item before introducing to our studio!) You will also haveĀ access to our stash of studio mending yarns, but if you have a similar type of yarn yourself already for the repair work, that would be helpful.
