Event Details

Learn the basics of embroidery and turn it into an essential tool: a needle pouch (10×15 cm) Perfect if you wanted to give embroidery a try whilst also getting the satisfaction of making one of the most fundamental toolkits for stitchers across time.

Step by Step: Your needle pouch with your own personal touch

You’ll be choosing a selection of recycled fabrics that will become the background for your embroidery and the main cover of your needle pouch. You’re welcome and encouraged to bring a small selection of your own scraps if you have a dream fabric put aside for the occasion or a stash you’ve been meaning to do something with for a while.

Note: If you’re not sure you want a needle pouch we can easily adapt the design into a envelope card case or small notebook cover of a similar size.

A sampler and a little more: practical is beautiful

We’ll then go through the most important stitches that are both practical and decorative, with tips and tricks to make them consistent, interesting and fun.

As we piece together the cover onto a layer of felt you’ll practice embroidering around borders and seams . Before your final piece is complete you’ll choose to add small extra details based on your needs ( for instance: a small pocket or fastening ribbon).

What you’ll learn:

In this workshop you’ll learn a series of basic stitches and creative variations belonging to the family of the back stitch, blanket stitch, feather stitch and a few more surface decorative stitches that can be personalised to your taste. You’ll also learn how to make a needle pouch or small embroidered cover using hand stitching only.

Example list of stitches:

Back stitch ( whipped back stitch, Threaded Chain Stitch, Pekinese backstitch)

Running stitch (stepped running stitch)

2 types of Blanket stitch

Whip stitch

Feather Stitch

And choose from a selection of other stitches that include:

Lazy daisy

Blanket Wheel

Chain stitch

French Knot

Couching

Woven rose

Satin stitch
