Event Details

Learn how to make your own ‘bojagi’ style patchwork hanging or curtain reusing high quality linen offcuts and salvaged sheer samples.

Join Yodomo founder Sophie Rochester for a one-day workshop inspired by the beautiful tradition of Korean bojagi (pojagi) patchwork textiles.

Using a curated selection of high quality linen offcuts and sheer interior design textiles salvaged for creative reuse, participants will create their own contemporary jogakbo-inspired textile hanging or lightweight curtain, exploring colour, transparency, composition and patchwork construction.

This workshop introduces the simple flat-seam technique traditionally used in bojagi construction, creating the distinctive geometric framework and luminous stained-glass effect these textiles are known for.

Suitable for confident beginners through to experienced makers, this is a relaxed full-day workshop with plenty of time to experiment, develop your design, and enjoy slow stitching in a small group setting.

Participants will be able to choose from a range of reclaimed materials provided, and are also very welcome to bring their own sheer fabrics if they’d like to incorporate personal textiles into their piece.

By the end of the day, you can leave with a fully finished smaller wall or window hanging or some participants prefer to continue their pieces at home to create much larger pieces. You’ll also leave with new sewing techniques, and inspiration for future patchwork projects.

On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:

  • Build confidence sewing with more delicate type fabrics
  • Create sealed flat seams traditionally used in ‘Bojagi’ constructon
  • Explore colour, transparency, composition and simple patchwork designs
  • Finish your textile and add a chanel and hanging pole
  • Look at ‘waste’ materials from a different perspective
