All clothes hold memories and stories, which is one reason why we are so reluctant to let them go. Whether they are garments that were left behind by a loved one we have lost, or, sentimental garments that our own children have outgrown. In many cases, we are left with a wardrobe of clothes that we are unable to part with.

This workshop is inspired by Barley Massey’s bespoke service – “Remember Me” in which she lovingly transforms meaningful items, with creativity and care into new treasured pieces. She has many year’s of experience working with different people and types of clothing in this way.

Join Barley for a day of mindful making in the studio, creating or starting your own “Remember Me” textile creation from cherished items of clothing. This may be a cushion made from your husband’s shirts, a tote bag from your father’s ties or perhaps a quilt from your baby’s clothes.

Techniques explored will include: Deconstruction / Reconstruction, Patchwork, Quilting, Poetic Upcycling. Hand & Machine sewing.

Basic sewing skills advised. If you have never used a sewing machine before, we recommend attending our ‘Beginners Sewing 1’ – introduction to using a sewing machine class first.

Time: 11am – 5:30pm (Please arrive promptly)

Please Bring: Items of clothing you would like to work with. We provide ‘Brother’ sewing machines, other tools and threads.
