ONLINE “Sew Along” with Peter Gibson – painter with threads
July 7 @ 1:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until 7th July 2020
Following Peter Gibson’s amazing “Artwear” exhibition held at Fabrications last October (see fellow band member Keith Trussell’s video below) which brought together Peter’s life long collection of hand embroidered jackets.
We are delighted to announce that Peter and his wife Hanelle are offering the opportunity to join them on a 4 week hand embroidery course. Be guided through a reflection of “What makes you Tick?” to realise your own creative expression and how to translate your thoughts and ideas into text and symbols through drawing. These drawings will become the starting point for your own hand embroidery designs, mark making or textures. You will also learn the techniques that Peter uses in his own embroidery work and decorate a denim tote bag or envelope style cushion.
Peter Gibson calls himself a “Creativist”, a term he invented to describe his professional life as an Artist, Filmmaker, and Musician. He studied Fine Art and Pedagogy at Liverpool College of Art and Design in the early Sixties.
Peter began embroidering denim jackets – the stereotypical “Muso’s uniform” to relieve the boredom of endless motorway. He was entirely self taught and would always have an embroidery project “on the go” whilst touring . He has been “Jacketing” for over fifty years and continues to find this method of creative expression fully absorbing . Peter has been described as a “Painter with Threads” . He has his own visual language of “Stitchery” which is unique in its colour, design and way of working. He fabricates repeating motifs of colourful beings, musical notes, stars, and zigzags as well as text of song lyrics or notable phrases relevant to the subject matter .
Starts: Tuesday 16th June for four weeks , 1.30- 3.00pm (23rd , 30th June & 7th July)
