Barley Massey has delivered a number of workshops and projects with young people. Both as a 'Visiting Artist' giving insight into her professional practise, sharing of hands on skills and techniques and also raising awareness for environmental issues such as consumption & waste, recycling/upcycling, better fashion & design industry practises. Barley has an up to date CRB certificate, public liability insurance and can carry out risk assesments on an activity.

Eco Factory - Collaborative road show initiated by Annie Sherburne and her 'Transendental Gypsy Caravan of creativity and co design interventions'. Barley Massey worked alongside Annie Sherburne in delivering a busy series of creative, public, textile interventions across London from the Tanneries in Bermondsey to the Oxo Tower to the Round House's 'Turning Point' festival organised by young people for young people.

Upcycling Academy - Educational model created by Barley Massey, in conjunction with Twisted Thread, Traid and War on Want. The aim of The Upcycling Academy is to provide a thought provoking, hands on learning into textile waste, creative upcycling and better fashion industry practises.

The experience takes the format of a mini production line (or productive line) Participants rotate around a series of workshop areas - 'Consumption & Waste' reception + garment collection point > Productive Line - creative upcycling, showing a variety of ways to transform garments delivered by industry experts (chopping & changing, machine sewing - re construction and customisation, hand stitched accesories, creating recycled yarns + macro knitting and peg loom weaving) > Excersise your Values + Be the Change - games and discussion based activities > Virtual Catwalk / photo shoot, participants model their creations and slogans and share through social media.

The Upcycling Academy can be delivered as a large intereactive experience or as a smaller intimate happening using individual components from the list above.

Family Learning - We can teach a wide variety of textile techniques to suit all ages and abilities and provide a pick n mix selection of inspirational upcycled materials and equipment. Get crafty with the Fabrications team!
