9 May 2018

* EVE CLASS * Make your own 'Secret Sari' dress

Date: 9 May 2018 18:30 to 20:30

Summer is fast-approaching, and we want to share the secret of the Secret Sari Dress with you.

The class will include an introduction from Fritha, the founder of Secret Projects,

Secret Projects is a social business and ethical brand empowering women in India through the making and selling of foldable, useful, purposeful and charming products. Our lead product is the Secret Pillow, a pillow that unfolds into a blanket. We also make the Secret Sari Dress. This collection was launched specifically to support young women recently rescued from sex trafficking and living in safe houses in Mumbai and Bangalore. By making the dresses to be sold on Secret Projects’ global platform, the women are not only provided with an income to save for their new lives beyond the safe house, but they also have the opportunity to develop their self-esteem and independence. This greatly reduces the risk of being re-trafficked in the future.

The class will be fun and relaxing, introducing you to the Secret Sari Dress project, which you will learn how to make from scratch and walk away with your own version.

There will be time at the end for questions, and drinks and nibbles will be provided.

Ticket price includes a vintage sari, which you will use to make the dress. But please feel free to bring along your own if you want more choice of patterns/colours! If you do buy a cotton sari, then we recommend washing it a couple of times before you come to soften the starch.

This workshop is open to ALL levels! Whether you've been sewing for years, or never touched a machine before...come and join us for an evening of Secret Sari Dress making!

We look forward to sewing with you!

TIME: 6.30 - 8.30pm

PRICE: £40 (+ online booking fee)
