* MORNING CLASS * Learn how to knit a 'Top Down' cardigan or jumper

Date: 14 April 2018 10:00 to 13:00
Learn the basics of how to  make a raglan cardigan or sweater (Level 1) using circular needles, knitted from the 'Top Down'. Jillian Bulgan has designed a great adaptable pattern, create a sweater or cardigan the length you want it, short or long sleeved, fitted and adjusted to your size. This is an introductory class aimed at confident beginners and improvers, using chunky wool to progress quickly with enough instruction to complete at home or at our fortnightly Thursday evening 'Craft Club'.

On completion of this workshop, participants will confidently be able to: 

- Make simple and stylish cardigans or sweaters on circular needles
- Understand the importance of tension squares and sizing
- Create ribbing for elastication and detailing
- Experience 3d knitting
- Increase and Decrease to create shaping
- Make button holes or insert a zip
- Follow a simple pattern from start to finish and understand how to adapt for a range of styles

10am - 1pm

PRICE: £40

YOU WILL REQUIRE: Approx 350g yarn (see measurements below) and 80cm circular needles (bring your own or items are available to purchase in our shop) For the first top down we recommend using chunky yarn (using 10 / 12mm needles) so you progress quickly!

Small 35" chest = approx 450m of yarn (200g)
Medium 38" chest = approx 525m of yarn (250g)
Large 41" chest = approx 675m of yarn (300g)
1 X Large = approx 825m of yarn (400g)
2 X Large = approx 975m of yarn (500g)

* AFTERNOON CLASS * Beginners Knitting

Date: 14 April 2018

Beginners Knitting Part 1 & 2 have been specifically developed to meet the needs of those wishing to take the first step into the world of knitting. These classes will not only introduce the participants to the fundamentals of knitting but also offer practical advice on yarns, needles and pattern reading. The class is taught by Barley Massey who will watch over your learning, offer feedback/observations and answer your questions as they arise! 

If you are already have basic knitting skills but wish to progress some aspects of your knitting you may want to join part 2. Sessions can be booked individually or as a mini course of 2 sessions (a discount is offered when you block book)

Beginners Knitting Part 1: Saturday 7th April
On completion of this workshop, participants should confidently be able to:

- Understand the relationship between wool and needle sizes.
- Make a Slip knot, use ‘thumb’ and ‘knitting on’ methods of casting on.
- Complete a plain stitch.
- Introduce a new ball of wool or new colour.
- Cast off and sew in loose ends.

Beginners Knitting Part 2: Saturday 14th April

On completion of this class, participants should confidently be able to:

- Complete a purl stitch.
- Understand how to combine plain & purl stitch to create new stitches, eg: stocking stitch, ribbing and moss stitch.
- Create shaping through increasing and decreasing stitches.

TIME: 2.30 - 5pm

PRICE: £35 individual session or £60 when you block book part 1 & 2  ( includes a starter pack and refreshments)

- Learn to knit socks on 2 needles

- Learn to knit a 'Top Down' cardigan or sweater
