* MORNING CLASS * Learn to knit socks

Date: 4 November 2017 10:00 to 13:00
Details:
Put your best foot forward and be guided with Jill Bulgan through the process of knitting socks from top to toe!

This class is suitable for those of you who are fairly new to knitting or making 3d objects as it focusses on knitting socks on 2 needles. It is also a fun project for intermediate knitters ( If you know how to cast on, knit & purl and cast off you will be fine in this class) You will receive enough instruction to complete your socks at home or at our fortnightly Thursday evening 'Craft Club'.


On completion of this workshop, participants will confidently be able to:

- Make simple and stylish socks on 2 needles
- Create ribbing for elastication
- Experience 3d knitting
- Understand how to 'turn the heel' by picking up stitches
- Decrease and create shaping for the toes
- Introduce colour to create pattern or text on the socks.
- Follow a simple sock pattern from start to finish


TIME:
10 - 1pm

PRICE: £35 / £30 conc. includes pattern and refreshments.


YOU WILL REQUIRE: 100g of DK yarn and 4mm needles

* AFTERNOON CLASS * Beginners Knitting

Date: 4 November 2017
Details:
Beginners Knitting Part 1, 2 & 3 have been specifically developed to meet the needs of those wishing to take the first step into the world of knitting. These classes will not only introduce the participants to the fundamentals of knitting but also offer practical advice on yarns, needles and pattern reading. The class is taught by Barley Massey who will watch over your learning, offer feedback/observations and answer your questions as they arise! 

If you are already have basic knitting skills but wish to progress some aspects of your knitting you may want to join part 2 and/or 3. Sessions can be booked individually or as a mini course of 3 sessions (a discount is offered when you block book)


Beginners Knitting Part 1: Saturday 28th October
On completion of this workshop, participants should confidently be able to:

- Understand the relationship between wool and needle sizes.
- Make a Slip knot, use ‘thumb’ and ‘knitting on’ methods of casting on.
- Complete a plain stitch.
- Introduce a new ball of wool or new colour.
- Cast off and sew in loose ends.



Beginners Knitting Part 2: Saturday 4th November

On completion of this class, participants should confidently be able to:

- Complete a purl stitch.
- Understand how to combine plain & purl stitch to create new stitches, eg: stocking stitch, ribbing and moss stitch.
- Create shaping through increasing and decreasing stitches.



Beginners Knitting Part 3: Saturday 11th November

On completion of this class, participants will confidently be able to: 

- Decode relevant knitting pattern terms and abbreviations
- Understand the importance of tension squares.
- Follow individual patterns.
- Recognise and rectify any mistakes made while following the pattern.
- Utilise finishing techniques including sewing and blocking.



TIME: 2.30 - 5pm

PRICE: £30 / £25 conc individual session or £75 / £65 when you block book part 1, 2 & 3 ( includes a starter pack and refreshments)
