Upcycling Workshop - Transform a shirt into a summer bomber jacket with David A Mumford

Date: 26 July 2015 11:00 to 17:00

Turn a boring formal shirt into a delightful lightweight summer jacket! Choose from 2 lengths - short and long sleeves (Unisex)

Fabrications is proud to be offering this special workshop with David A Mumford, a very creative and skilled fashion designer and maker. David began designing and making clothes in the early 80's. He has run his own labels in the commercial fashion industry and most recently (2004 - 2013) he was one of the designers of the pioneering upcycling clothing brand 'Junky Styling'. He now has his own brand D.A.M specialising in upcycled commissions and one off pieces (and on sale in Fabrications shop!)

The class is aimed at people with a basic knowledge of sewing and able to use a sewing machine. During the class you will learn basic deconstruction methods, work with combining stretch and stable materials, overlocking and how to insert a Zip. It is an ideal follow on to our 'Introduction to using a sewing machine' classes.

On completion of the class, participants will confidently be able to:

- Take measurements of your body and ensure your reinvented garment fits you well.
- Look at the shirts and realise a new stylish possibility!
- Use simple methods of de-construction
- Insert an open ended zip
- Add stretch cuffs, waistband and collar
- Create a unique up-cycled piece.
- Gain inspiration to go forward with your own ideas

11 - 5pm

£55 / £50 Includes stretch rib and zips , threads, use of equipment etc and refreshments.

Please bring a cotton shirt that is too big for you or fits you with some space to spare!
(There will be back up shirts if you don't have one and want to attend the class!)
