Men’s Waistcoat Sewing Workshop
March 16 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join Russell Philip Peek for a fun, creative and aspirational day, learning how to sew a man’s waistcoat, tailored to your size or perhaps someone else you’d like to make for! Whether you’re a seasoned sewer, or have little experience (we would advise that you have used a sewing machine before!) but would love to have a go, Russell will guide you through step by step, passing on his tailoring and sewing experience.
While the focus of this workshop is a man’s garment, everyone is welcome.
On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:
- Calculate your size and use a paper pattern to cut out your cloth pieces
- Explore the range of features and stitches on the machine.
- Make ‘Welt’ style pockets
- Add a lining and ‘Bag out’ your garment
- Apply buttonholes
- Get a professional and tailored finish
- Apply learning and techniques to other garment projects
We are delighted to present – Russell Philip Peek who has many years of experience in art direction, garment and costume design under his super-styling belt.
“For the last 15 years, I have worked in London as a fashion stylist, garment maker, project manager and university lecturer. Like many freelance creatives today, my career has had several branches, leading me to contribute to a variety of international brands and publications, as well as share my experience and motivate the next generation of innovators”
“I became very frustrated with seeing the industry throw fabric offcuts in the bin and knowing it all ends up in landfill or the incinerator. I had to do something about this needless waste and find a solution to this textile problem. I launched Offscut Studio as a means to reuse or recycle the creative industry’s waste. Reusable luxury fabric offcuts are made into sustainable homeware products like cushions covers, plant hammocks and vases. Any scraps too small to reuse are shredded and processed into stuffing for cushion and seat pads. We are recycling 100% of the textiles that comes through our door, create zero waste products and are working towards a carbon neutral/plastic free studio.”
YOU WILL NEED: There will be a selection of plain and patterned fabrics provided, suitable for your waistcoat but you are also welcome to bring your own (Depending on width of your cloth you will need 0.5 – 1m for the fronts and 1 – 1.5m for the back and lining)
PRICE: £75 (includes all materials)
You can also book directly with us at the shop or over the phone (and save on the online booking fee)
