Meet Our Teachers Event
6th December 2018 @ 6:30 am - 9:30 pm£5
Are you interested in trying a new skill? Developing your creativity? Or maybe thinking about giving one of our classes as a Christmas gift?
Come along to a special social evening and meet our teachers! Each teacher will give a short presentation about their craft practice and approach to teaching followed by a Q&A. There will also be a light buffet and drinks with plenty of opportunity to socialise. Fabrications shop will also be open for some late night shopping.
Your £5 ticket can also be redeemed against purchases in the shop or class bookings on the night.
Our ‘core’ Teachers:
Barley Massey – established Fabrications in June 2000 and continues to “Care Take” the space and promote other local makers alongside her own textile upcycling practice. Offering a range of products and services including her “Remember Me” commissioning service, “Rethink Rubbish” craft kits and the “Upcycling Academy” initiative. Join Barley for sewing, dressmaking and creative reuse classes.
Bella Lane – is an embroidery artist, master Peruvian embroiderer, creator, specialist tutor in fine embroidery and needlework. After several years working in embroidery commissions and teaching, in 2014 she became an international puppet designer and performer. Bella is currently writing a book about ‘Arpilleras’ the brightly colored patchwork pictures made by groups of women in Chile during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
Jill Bulgan – Also known online and within the knitting community as “Knit with Jill” because that is exactly what she’ll enable you to do! A prolific knitter since childhood, there’s not much that Jill cannot do with some wool and a pair of needles!
Milou Stella – set up Moody Bright Designs, a project that focuses on hand embroidered customisation of second-hand items. As a trained painter (Slade school of art), she plays with contrast, colour and texture. She began “Moody Bright Designs” as a response to concerns about fast fashion and the environment, with an urgent need to slow down and appreciate the process of making something unique and of quality, whilst avoiding waste as much as possible.
Rob Jones – is a textile designer specialising in the ancient Japanese art of Shibori, Katagamii, Sashiko & Boro . He selects both new and vintage textiles, sourcing beautiful old kimono silk from Japan and vintage and modern cloth from the UK for his creations, made at his studio in North London. Rob has studied at West Dean College and under Bryan Whitehead in Fujino, Japan in 2014.
Tone Ward – from Ull Nordic Craft, an expert in Scandinavian knitting and crocheting. She started clicking the needles in Norway as a small girl and hasn’t looked back since. She is an enthusiastic follower of ‘Hygge’ and practices this ‘philosophy for living’ in all areas of her life. An experienced workshop leader, Tone will get you started with your crochet, offering tips, tricks and observations with your learning.
